MV "LYRA J" underway for new "Baltic Cargo Shuttle"
21.10.2014
(2014-10-21) ARKON Shipping, exclusive chartering broker of Jüngerhans
heavy-lift vessels, together with BEST Logistics inaugurated the jointly
established "Baltic Cargo Shuttle". BCS is as feeder service for
heavy-lift and general cargo operating between the so-called "North
Range" and the Baltic Sea.
MV "LYRA J", a modern heavy-lift vessel with a flexible tween deck and a loading capacity of 8,000 tons (dwt), is initially employed for this. The two electro-hydraulic deck cranes have a lifting capacity of 200 tons each and can in combination independently load and unload loads up to 400 tons. The new service is therefore particularly interesting for ports where no heavy-lift cranes with adequate capacity are available. Due to the use of modern vessels, the European emission standards ((S) ECA areas) can additionally be complied with.
BEST Logistics is a subsidiary of the Haeger & Schmidt Group in Duisburg. The company founded in 1887 is not only one of the leading logistics service providers on Europe's waterways, but also disposes of many years of expertise for bulk and heavy shipments within Germany and Europe, as well as for planning, implementation and monitoring multimodal transport and large-scale projects. The "Baltic Cargo Shuttle" now provides a useful addition to the existing services, where significant synergies can be attained.
