MV “LYRA J“ loads hovercraft

Particularly large and heavy cargo can be transported worldwide with heavy lift vessel MV "LYRA J". An extraordinary and unusual cargo was loaded in the port of Akutan (Alaska) and shipped to Southampton (UK). It is a hovercraft. Although the cargo is not characterized by a particularly high weight or a complicated way of securing transport, but one does not commonly see such unusual goods on the heavy lift vessels of the Jüngerhans shipping company every day.

The heavy lift vessel MV "LYRA J" was built at the Portuguese shipyard Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castello (ENVC). It was commissioned in April of 2001. The vessel has a length of 119.85 meters and a beam of 20.00 meters. The loading capacity is 8.000 tdw. and the draft 7.70 meters. The main engine model MAK 6 M 43 with 5,400 kW power provides a cruising speed of 16 knots.
