Four 1,000-TEU container vessels from China
Chinese shipyard builds four 1,000-TEU container vessels - technical and commercial management out of Haren (Ems)
Four container vessels are currently being built at the Chinese shipyard Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co., Ltd., the chartering of which shall after delivery be done by our shipping company. The vessels each have a capacity of 1,004 slots for 20-foot standard containers. The highest environmental standards are fulfilled by a particularly energy-efficient main engine and the exhaust gas desulphurization plant on board. The vessel design was in terms of dimensions, loading capacity and propulsion concept tailored precisely to the requirements of its future travel region.
The container ships will in future be operated in European line operation by B.G. Freight Line who are part of the English Peel Group. So-called "feeder services" are also offered in addition to intra-European operation. The term originates from the English word “to feed”. The large container lines with few ports of call in Europe are quasi "fed" by transportation from and to smaller ports, mainly along the coasts of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea as well as the British Isles.
The chartering agent Arkon Shipping is also domiciled in the traditional shipping location Haren (Ems). The employment contract for the vessels came about due to their agency. Answering the question of how the order for new vessels came about considering the frequent reports about over-capacities in the shipping industry, Arkon's Managing Director, Torsten Westphal, explains: "These ships were not ordered in a speculative manner, but developed, projected and built according to the specific requirements of a customer.”It had been possible to bring together potent and renowned partners for the challenging project in order to build modern and environmentally friendly vessels.
A few days ago, the first steel was cut at the shipyard for the first two vessels. Their delivery is planned for October and December of next year. The two sister ships are to follow a year later. The Jüngerhans shipping company is looking forward to being able to commission newbuildings for the first time after seven years. “The past years were probably the most difficult in our company history," concludes Stefan Jüngerhans. The fleet of vessels operated by Jüngerhans currently consists of 35 modern container and heavy-lift vessels. The ancestors of the two brothers have demonstrably been active in the shipping industry for twelve generations. The family name Jüngerhans first appeared on a document relating to Haren ship owners from the year 1615. Over the past 40 years, more than 100 vessels have been ordered at shipyards around the world and commissioned; 65 of which have in the meantime again been sold.
