ARKON launches new container feeder pool

In April of 2017, the broker ARKON launched an income pool across shipping companies for feeder vessels that are specially optimized for transporting 45 foot containers. Only a few types of vessels can be considered as pool vessels, including the so-called "RW850" models of the Hegemann shipyard group.

A pool rate is calculated per month for each vessel class and paid to the shipping companies.

The pool initially started with eleven pool vessels. In June of this year, the pool was already extended by a twelfth vessel from a shipping company in Bremen. The pool is also open to other shipping companies and is even to be expanded in the future. 

The aim is to strengthen the market position by pooling the charter. Fluctuations can be absorbed thereby and the risk of a complete shortfall of charter income can be minimized. Strategic contracts with different terms are to be concluded. The specialty of the 45 foot container is that this is the maximum size for onward transportation on the road on the European continent, as well as in the UK and Ireland.
